TOY Train RAILROAD
Blast FROM THE PAST
In the beginning the word was ...... Build!
Construction of the physical layout of the TemplarMill Classic Toy Train Railroad began in 2004. The construction was inspired by the purchase of a single post war O scale Lionel Caboose in 2003 while on a "date" at an antique store in Hartford County, Maryland.

Vintage Lionel tubular three rail track was layed. We subsequently added Lemax and Marx buildings. Unlike other hobby train builders, right from the start we were interested in a fantasy feel, where color, whimsical appearance and sound set the tune for the layout. We tried out a two level display at first.

The upper level of the original layout showed unique character. We initially build two levels due to severe space limitations. The space was like a large walk-in closet. (However, the fever was spreading).

The "date" (now my wife) helped to find another location which allowed for the first expansion. The railroad was now housed in a large barn. The layout was constructed on the second level, and the workshop was taking shape on the first level of the barn. The picture here shows just one side of the layout. Notice how the old second layout tier was replaced with a separate G scale train line. Again, the theme was fantasy and not strict realism.

The large barn space allowed for the experiments with other projects. Here a theater was built for moving figures and marionettes.
