VISITS AND EVENTS

Engine No 14 Switcher - Gaithersburg.jpg

No.14 Steam Locomotive

BC&G No. 14 is a static (non-operational) locomotive located and displayed in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Research indicates that she started life in 1918 as a 0-8-0 mill switcher.  She was latter modified to a 2-8-0 and operational with the BC&G from 1950 through 1967 when she was abandoned.  It is sitting out in the weather unprotected near a business center when I took this photo.
Visit to the Strasburg Rail Road
The Strasburg Rail Road, Pennsylvania offers an authentic steam train ride on one of the oldest continuously operating railroads in the nation.  The Rail Road offers a ride through 2,500 acres of Lancaster County’s famous Amish Country.  Visitors also appreciate the fully restored steam locomotives and beautifully restored wooden railcars
Strausburg - Locomotive No- 90- Part 2.jpg
Built in 1924 by Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, No. 90 is one of just two operational Decapod class locomotives remaining in America.  After spending 40 years of hauling commodities through the mountains of northern Colorado, she was sold to the Strasburg Rail Road in 1967.

Ottaway at Strasburg

IMGP5166.JPG
The Ottaway small 12 gauge steam locomotives have a history that goes back to the 1940s.  Designed to be used at amusement parks, the mini steam locomotive has been a kid and adult favorite.  Approximately 100 of this distinctive 4-4-0 locomotive were made.  Those that survive are in the hands of private collectors.

An Ottaway Steam Locomotive was recently sold to a private collector.  Notice that it is small enough to sit on a wood pallet.

Seneca Cannery Antiques

Seneca Cannery - Antique Shop - Sign.jpg
Seneca Cannery Antiques in Havre de Grace, Maryland is one of our favorite antique stores.  Located in an old cannery building, it has grown to three spacious floors and over 50 dealers.  Throughout the years the staff has always been friendly and helpful.  We make annual trips.

Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania - Sign_edited.jpg
Bayside Antiques in Havre de Grace, Maryland is the store where our very first O scale train car was purchased in 2002. At the time there were several vintage Lionel train cars for sale. I purchased a post war Lionel port window Caboose.   Having experienced HO Scale trains in my youth, I was amazed at the site of a O scale train.  It started the journey for what is now the TemplarMill Classic Fantasy Toy Train Railroad. We still visit annually.

While in Strasburg PA, we had the opportunity to visit the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.  Huge collection of vintage trains and memorabilia.  Recommend viewing their web site and taking the "Virtual Tour."  See information below.
